Knowing and honouring your personal boundaries is essential for your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Physical Boundaries refer to the limits we set around our personal space and physical bodies. Examples include the physical space around you that you don’t want others to enter without consent, the level of touch you are comfortable with, personal privacy with your home or belongings, and boundaries around physical health and injury. Emotional boundaries are the limits and guidelines we set within relationships about our feelings, thoughts, and emotional needs. Protecting your emotional boundaries involves things such as expressing your feelings and needs clearly and assertively, saying “no” without feeling guilty, and not taking on other people’s emotions or problems as your own.
