There are many articles on the internet that consider the relationship of Mental Health and Christian Faith. One oft-cited shortcoming of the Christian understanding of Mental Illness is the belief that mental illness simply reflects spiritual conflict or personal shortcomings of faith. This is an oversimplification of our humanity, and can lead to a lack of loving response. Responding with love and care towards a person suffering mental illness might be better framed in the ways that we respond towards a person suffering from a medical diagnosis. Taking time to listen, learn, and offer support within your capacities are three ways (among many) to encourage those living with mental health concerns.
