The Sanctuary Course - Session 3: Stigma There are several harmful community responses to mental illness and suffering, which alienate the sufferer from the community. In this session, we learn about beliefs that foster poor responses to mental illness and suffering, as well as what can be done instead. In this session’s video, we learn from Simone, who lives with schizophrenia. We learn that it is possible to experience a dark night of the soul along with a mental health challenge, but they are not necessarily linked and should not be confused.

The Sanctuary Course is an 8-week course that gives participants a chance to broaden their understanding of mental health from a Christian perspectiveSanctuary Mental Health Ministries is a Christian non-profit organization that was founded in 2012 for the purpose of equipping churches in Canada to love and support community members with lived experience of mental health challenges.
