The Sanctuary Course - Session 2: Mental Illnesses
There are several harmful community responses to mental illness and suffering, which alienate the sufferer form the community. In this session, we learn about how diagnoses are given, and explore the environments that foster poor responses to mental illness and suffering, as well as what can be done instead. In this session’s video, we learn from Curtis, who lives with anxiety and depression, and has experienced burnout. We learn that it is possible to experience a dark night of the soul along with a mental health challenge, but they are not necessarily linked and should not be confused.

The Sanctuary Course is an 8-week course that gives participants a chance to broaden their understanding of mental health from a Christian perspective. Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries is a Christian non-profit organization that was founded in 2012 for the purpose of equipping churches in Canada to love and support community members with lived experience of mental health challenges. Please take a look at their website HERE for a brief introduction to the program.
