The Edmonton Music & Speech Arts Festival begins this Tuesday, giving thousands of music students, actors, musicians and music lovers the opportunity to perform and improve their craft. This year the performances will be held at EPSB Centre High Campus (10025 101 ST NW), MacEwan University – Alberta College Campus (10050 MacDonald Drive NW), Robertson-Wesley United Church (10209123 Street NW), the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (8426 Gateway Boulevard NW), and Archbishop MacDonald Catholic High School (14219 109 Avenue NW). Our Simple Breakfast last Sunday was a great success. Thank you to Betty and Macreena for all the work that went into making it happen!  The baked oatmeal was such a hit that we’ve included the recipe here: Baked Oatmeal (serves 4)

2 cups oatmeal, 1½ tsp baking powder, ½ tsp salt, ½ cup pear juice, ½ cup milk, 2 eggs beaten, ½ cup applesauce or pureed pears, 1 cup chopped canned pears, ½ cup brown sugar

Preheat oven to 325°F. In a large bowl, combine oatmeal, baking powder & salt; mix in pear juice, milk, eggs, applesauce & brown sugar. Stir and pour into a greased casserole dish. Sprinkle with chopped pears. Bake at 325°F for 45 minutes. Serve hot, adding toppings as desired.
