The Christian Care Centre (CCC) serves, homeless, underpriveledged and lonely people in west Edmonton. The CCC is staffed by a volunteer team from our congregation, from various other churches in the west-end and from the community. Volunteers who usually work the same day each week, offer people who drop in a place to have breakfast and a chance to visit for coffee and a chat. The CCC also offers food that people can pick up on an emergency need basis. Pantry shelves are stocked by the members of the congregation who bring non-perishable items or a cash donation for this purpose. There is a clothes room where people can get clothes that are donated and given away free. Volunteers also offers prayer and personal encouragement to people who drop in. The CCC is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
Part of a speech from the Re-opening dedication
As you may know the CCC has been part of the community since September 1992. This ministry in the community, to the community and with the community has only been possible by the hard work and enthusiasm of a handful of dedicated ministry volunteers over the first 12 years who all came from St Paul’s.
Our Mission Statement from when we first opened in September 1992
1. To be THERE………. be part of the local community.
2. In PRAYER……….. without which no valid lasting ministry can be sustained.
3. As the CHURCH……as an integral part of the over all life, worship and service St P’s
4. To serve NON-JUDGEMENTALLY…… in the name of Jesus and reaching out to all.
Everyone will be welcomed in Christian love.
The volunteer base has grown to encompass other churches and people from the community. We have partnered with Beulah Alliance, Crestwood Presbyterian, and Christ Church Anglican to further the ministry of CCC.
If you are interested in volunteering in this ministry give the Centre a call or drop in any morning and speak with a volunteer staff member.
